Welcome to Bootscooters & Hepkats

Here is a short history on line dancing in America.

Line dancing has been around for many years. Here in the United States, modern line dancing really took hold in the 1980's. The most popular of the first line dances started with the "Electric Slide" and has been popular ever since. Line dancing didn't start out as country. It started out in the 1950's with dances like "The Stroll", teenage boys didn't dance so the girls had to dance by themselves. With the popularity of songs like "Achy Breaky Heart", line dancing started making the country scene. The record companies wanted to cash in on the line dancing craze and held a contest looking for the best line dance to "Boot Scootin' Boogie". When it was all done, there were many dances made to that song, and they all became popular in their own regions. Today, line dancing is not only done to country songs, but to anything that has a good beat. Line dances are being performed to traditional rock and roll, ethnic songs from all nations including Ireland, Africa and Australia. Today, many line dances are being done to "oldies" and other alternative rock songs.
